Go See Waitress

So this weekend I took a break from reading to go to New York City in midst of a pandemic. There is only one reason that I would ever do that and that would be to see one of my favorite artists. Yesterday I finally got to see Sara Bareilles live and on Broadway in Waitress.

If you don’t know anything about Waitress I suggest you watch the movie that came out in 2007. Kerri Russell (aka Felicity) and Nathan Fillion (aka Richard Castle) star in this classic that most people don’t really know about.

But fast forward to 2016 and this became a Broadway hit, with music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles. I can’t put into words how much I love this show and the music. The video below if the video that Sara released from one of the most powerful songs in the show.

Every time I hear this song I start crying. It brings up so many emotions. It is a song that everyone in some way can relate to. But in addition to just the massive emotions that the show brings up, it is also hilarious. Oggie brings so much joy to the show with his antics. And so does Dr. Pomatter. I don’t think I have ever seen a more socially awkward doctor (even though he is a fictional character).

My recommendation, watch the movie from 2007 if you can find it. The go see the musical, either on tour or on Broadway. But they did just film it so it might be on a streaming service in future. I would say watch it there if you can’t see it in person, the effect isn’t 100% the same but very close.
