If you are looking for an honest look a what it like to be a Brown Girl, this is the book for you. As a Brown Girl myself, there were many stories told in this book that I could identify with and there were some that I could not.
Not fully relating to all of the Brown Girl situations was not a problem, the author did a wonderful job of making sure that the reader was fully immersed in to the world of Queens and understood what the Brown Girls in the book were thinking and feeling.
In a story, that read more like short essays, that spanned the years; you were able to get a good look in to the life of the storyteller and her friends. It became more than just the story of her life, but also a story of how friendships evolve over the years and how it feels when those things change.
While I may have not fully related to all of this book, I’m glad that I read as I now have a better picture of what it like to be one of the Brown Girls in the book. I feel privileged to have been able to read an advance copy of this amazing book.
