Greenlights Review

First I need to say up front, that Matthew McConaughey is one of my favorite actors and I like to think that we are on a first name basis, so throughout this review I will refer to him as Matt.

Matt and I cam to be good friends after my viewing A Time To Kill (if you haven’t seen it stop what you are doing and go watch it. IT IS AMAZING, a bit dark in subject matter, BUT AMAZING. After watching him in that movie, I was hooked. I developed a crush (which I maintain to this day) but I realized acting wise he could do no wrong.

I will say that I own both the physical book (which I preordered almost immediately) and the audio book of this. I decided that I wanted to hear Matt tell his story and I’m glad that I did. There is nothing like the author telling about their life in their own words. And knowing how funny Matt can be I was more than ready to hear his antics as he told his life story.

Other than learning about how interesting Matt’s life has been to this point, I loved that I learned something along the way. His “greenlights” and “bumper stickers” throughout the book we incredibly insightful. I don’t think I would have thought from the outside that Matt was such a deep person. I now look forward to the day when we can sit down and have a philosophical conversation with him about life. You do get a lot of thoughts on this in the book, but talking to him face to face about it would be a highlight for me.

Learning about Matt’s hiatus from film was also enlightening. If you have followed his career his big hits were A Time to Kill followed by a string of romantic comedies (The Wedding Planner being my favorite of all of them), but then he kind of just disappeared. And now I know why, he wanted to do something different and he stuck to guns about it. Hollywood in way forgot him, but then when when he was gone long enough, they brought him back and he finally got his Oscar. And Dallas Buyers Club (another great film, why Matt won an Oscar for it) was shot it a very short period of time. Again just a testament to his skills as an actor and always wanting to understand “his man”.

I will now leave you with my rating⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (as if you expected any less) and a video of Matt’s most famous movie line.
