As I noted in my previous post, I was being optimistic in giving a Colleen Hoover book a second try, since everyone is raving about Verity and I do want to read it. But now I’m really not sure. Layla might have ruined all of Colleen Hoover for me. Which stinks because my copy of Verity has already been purchased. I guess I will give it to a Free Little Library.
I decided to read Layla as part of a Kindle challenge (I like to complete things). It was one of the ones on the list that I could get using my unlimited subscription and listen to the audiobook. And let’s just say I’m glad it was free. This story went from strange to stranger. I feel like it was trying to be a retelling of Casper: The Friendly Ghost.
The whole storyline felt very forced and not all that believable. I don’t know if this is a Colleen Hoover thing or not. The last book of hers that I read I didn’t love either, but I didn’t seem so out of the ordinary. I think I am just going to chalk all Colleen Hoover books up as non reads for me. I have a copy of Verity if anyone wants it.
