My Thoughts On Spare and its Drama

All of my life I have been fascinated by the Royal Family. I mean who wouldn’t be, they have real-life princesses! Please see all of my previous posts about my love of Cinderella.

So having a royal write a no-holds-barred book about their life, sign me up immediately. I mean I brought the audiobook and the hardback. I think that tells you a little bit about how excited I was to read this story and have a better understanding of all the royal drama that has gone down over the past few years.

Let me start by saying, I have full empathy for Prince Harry and how he grew up. We as Americans always joke that the British are cold and don’t express their feelings, but I don’t think that has ever been more evident than in the story of how Harry was treated following his mother’s death and the years after. No child wants to be patted on the knee by their father when they are told that their mother has died. But aside from that how obvious it was throughout that Harry was the spare and no one cared about him or what he did. He was just there to ensure that the monarchy continued if anything ever happened to Willy (I had to do that once, but it strikes me as odd that he called him Willy all the time. William will be used from here on out).

Now that I have explained my empathy, I will move on to all of the moments where I had a complete lack of empathy. All of the time he complained about how privileged he and his family are. Like how he was sad that there might not have been enough centuries-old gold to make a wedding band for Meghan. When he didn’t realize that if he wanted to marry Meghan he needed to ask the Queen for permission. And then when his family cut him off (which I didn’t fully agree with) he had no idea how to be an adult. He was over 30 at the time. I learned how to be an adult at 18, just like most other people. But I guess that is what happens when you are born into a family where you have to do nothing.

I could go on for days about the absurdity of the British Royal family, but I really want others to read (or listen to I feel like the effect is better that way) the book so they can make their own judgments. At the end of the day after listening, I will say I 100% agree with why Meghan and Harry left the Royal Family. I also applaud Harry for not wanting the same thing that happened to his mother to happen to him and his family. I still don’t like the King (I started to call him Prince Charles lol) and really dislike William more now. And lastly, I really just want Harry to relinquish some of his sense of obligation to King and Country and then maybe he could have told the full story.
