I typically don’t enjoy reading books that are parts of a series without reading the first book first. I didn’t have that opportunity with A Naked Beauty, but it didn’t actually ruin the story for me. This story gave enough background to understand the story that was trying to be told and how the characters fit into it. However I do wish that I had started from the beginning.
Our main characters Dee and Mick share a storied past, which is touched on in this story, but I don’t feel that I got the full context of it bu not reading the first book. The one thing that I will give this book is that it touched on a lot of things. But the journey that Dee went on to become comfortable with her body is something that I find to be completely relatable as it is something that I deal with and I know its something that other women deal with.
In addition to dealing with sensitive topics, the steam level of this book was through the roof, but it was done in a tasteful way. While the love scenes were intense, you could tell that they were just two people going at it, they were two people deeply in love. And that fact made the scenes even steamier in my opinion.
At the end I the day I will go back and read Fat Girl by Leigh Carron because I think that what she writes about is important and I greatly enjoy her writing style. I give this book four stars and if I was rating for spice alone I would give it 5.
