So I now live in a world where there will be a woman in the White House, and a woman of color at that. My emotions have been all over the place today and I think they will be for the next 4 years.
Breaking the glass ceiling has been a phrase that has meant a lot to me over the past few years. I work in a field that is dominated by men, so working my way to the top of the field has been something that I have always aspired to do. I’m getting closer, but I’m not there yet. And then in 2016, when Hillary Clinton was running for president; I thought that it might be the moment where women would be seen as equals to men. We all know what happened on election night in 2016, so I won’t go into it here.
And now in 2020, in the centennial of women getting the right to vote; we have seen democracy in action. And because of that, I now get to see a woman; a woman that looks like me; in the second highest office in the land. I will be 100% honest I didn’t think that it would happen so soon after what happened in 2020, but that is how democracy works.
I do have to say that Vice President elect Harris said it best:
We have shattered half of the ceiling, but there is still another half to go. I hope that this election will be remembered for years to come, as the election where America realized that change was needed, and they made that change.
