The Power of Ritual Book Review

So as a fan of all genres (for the most part) and someone who loves a good self-develpoment book; I was very excited to read The Power of Ritual. The four areas of ritual that book focused on seemed intriguing to me and areas of my life that I have been trying to work on, on my own.

Of the four sections, connection with self was by far the most powerful to me. During the early days in the pandemic, I had a lot of time to do a lot of thinking and starting connecting with myself more. Reading that chapter I realized that my barre workouts (prior to knee surgery and the pandemic) were a ritual to me. But of all the ideas in the chaper, the idea of sacred reading is what really got me. With all of the books I read, I don’t really take the time to really indulge in them, unless they move me, but what if I changed that. What if I took the time to read all books scaredly? I decided that I’m going to try this out on one of my all time favorite books Jane Eyre. I went out and brought a special copy of it to use as the version that I read saredly.

In addition to connecting my myself, connecting with nature is something else that I tried to do more of during the pandemic. I spent alot more time outside on our deck in the warmer months and even in front of our outdoor fireplace in the fall. I’m very excited for it to be spring again so I can commune with nature as I’m not a huge fan of winter or being outdoors in the winter.

At the end of the day, I would say that anyone who is looking to slow down and try to connect with more things and themselves should read this book. You will realize that you have more rituals than you already know about.
