To be honest I have been a bit speechless all day today since about 3 pm EST. Its now almost 8 pm EST and I don’t know that I have processed what has been going on today. I am feeling many things:
- Fear
- Sadness
- Anger
- Shock
- Outrage
- Anger
- Fear
I think you can see a pattern here. I’m not sure where America as a country is going after today, and that scares me. My entire life I have been taught that America is the greatest nation in the world, and then today I watched as American citizens invaded the Capitol Building. Please note this has not happened since the War of 1812. That was over a century ago and it was a foreign nation that did that. What are those that are watching us from a far to think that our country has reached to this point.
I know that not everyone is going to agree with me, but as John King said earlier today on CNN, “The President is disputing math.” And he is, I don’t know how else to say it. He is dragging this country through the mud all because he didn’t get what he wanted and no one will just hand it to him. Part of me wants to read the book written by Mary Trump, Too Much and Never Enough, just to get a better idea about the person so many people are patient about keeping as a leader.
I am not eagerly awaitng the United States Congress to get on with certifying the results of the Electoral College and letting democracy play out as it should. I’m hoping that people like Ted Cruz decide just leave it alone after what happened today and let the process play out as it should. Also I’m hoping that Ted Cruz realizes that 39% does not constitute a majority.
But more than anything I am looking forward to being able to take the day off of work on January 20th and watch as the first woman and woman of color is sworn in as Vice President of the United States. I’m glad to know that Congress is going to finsih their duty on the day that they are supposed to so hopefully that will still happen.
I’m hoping you are all looking forward to my future review of Too Much and Never Enough.
